Parrish Medical Center issued the following announcement on Aug. 03.
Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
This week aims to highlight the major benefits of breastfeeding for the health and wellbeing of moms and babies. Parrish Medical Center Lactation Consultants Rita Jordan, RN, IBCLC; Heather Focht, RN, CLC and Donna Lowery, RN, CLC, work one-on-one with mothers to build confidence and teach them how to breastfeed successfully. Follow their top five breastfeeding tips below:
• Be Patient. Anything new takes time and patience. If you find yourself or your baby
becoming distressed, take a break until you’re ready to try again.
• Practice rooming in by allowing your baby to stay with you for 24 hours a day.
• Refrain from giving infants food or drink other than breast milk, unless medically
required.
• Feed according to your baby’s need. Frequent and effective feeding will lead to
consistent milk supply.
• Don’t be afraid to ask for support.
