Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved H.R. 27, known as the HALT Fentanyl Act. This legislation, co-sponsored by Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, aims to permanently classify fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs.

Rep. Webster emphasized the severity of the fentanyl crisis in the United States: “The fentanyl crisis continues to ravage our country and communities, accounting for a majority of drug overdose deaths in the United States.” He further noted that "the flood of fentanyl-related substances into our country – largely through the southern border has claimed far too many lives."

By reclassifying these substances, Rep. Webster believes that law enforcement will be better equipped to combat drug traffickers and prevent these dangerous drugs from infiltrating communities. “By permanently classifying fentanyl-related substances as a Schedule I drugs, this legislation ensures law enforcement has the tools needed to crack down on traffickers and keep these dangerous drugs out of our communities,” he stated.
