Florida Congressman Daniel Webster has expressed his support for the passage of H.R. 21, known as the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Act. The legislation aims to protect infants who survive abortion procedures by ensuring they receive appropriate medical care.
“It’s unconscionable that babies born alive after failed abortions can be denied medical care to save their lives,” said Rep. Webster. He emphasized the importance of the right to life, stating, “The unalienable right to life promised in our Declaration of Independence extends to unborn children. The right to life is our first God-given right, and today, House Republicans reaffirmed that truth with the passage of this bill.”
The act mandates healthcare practitioners provide the same level of care for infants surviving abortion as they would for any newborn. It introduces strict criminal penalties for those who fail to comply or report violations and allows mothers a civil cause of action against practitioners while offering them protection from prosecution.
Rep. Webster highlighted that “every human life is sacred” and stressed that the legislation supports "the inherent dignity of every child," ensuring they receive compassionate care and legal protection.
