Florida Congressman Daniel Webster has announced his support for the passage of S. 4367, known as the Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA). The act focuses on water resource projects critical to Florida's economy and environment.

“With miles of coastline, vital waterways, and a robust economy tied to tourism, fishing, and trade, water is critical to the state of Florida,” said Rep. Webster. He emphasized that throughout his public service, he has advocated for policies supporting local projects and ensuring that Florida's unique water needs are prioritized. He noted that WRDA 2024 would advance locally driven projects while protecting natural resources.

The legislation is the outcome of extensive negotiations within the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and later with the U.S. Senate. Congressman Webster played a significant role in securing priorities for Florida during these discussions.

Key components of WRDA 2024 include a two-year pause on a U.S. Army Corps policy change affecting hurricane resilience, allowing numerous beach nourishment projects to proceed. It also includes protection for Everglades water policy in line with current restoration efforts, $320 million for stormwater treatment area construction, $1.1 billion for Tampa Harbor deepening, $2.1 billion for Everglades ecosystem restoration, and authorization for the Lake Okeechobee Watershed Restoration Project.
