Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, along with Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves and Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Subcommittee Chairman Scott Perry, have expressed concerns to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell. They are joined by all Republicans on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in addressing reports related to recent hurricanes.
The committee's letter highlights an incident where a FEMA supervisor allegedly instructed workers in Lake Placid, Florida, to avoid homes displaying campaign signs for President-elect Trump after Hurricane Milton. This instruction reportedly led workers to bypass certain homes based on political affiliations.
"As the FEMA Administrator, you are responsible for leading the Nation’s efforts to prepare for, protect against, and respond to natural disasters. The Committee is troubled that under your leadership FEMA failed to aid all Americans, regardless of party affiliation," states the letter addressed to Criswell.
The members of Congress emphasized their concern over what they see as a contradiction between this alleged guidance and FEMA's mission. "The blatant disregard of President-elect Trump supporters directly contradicts FEMA’s core mission and values," they said. They also criticized the Biden-Harris Administration's preparedness in providing disaster relief.
The letter concludes with a request for more information from FEMA regarding these claims and seeks a briefing on the matter.
