Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, along with other members of the Florida Delegation, has requested an expedited Major Disaster Declaration from President Joe Biden. The request follows Hurricane Milton's landfall as a Category 3 hurricane near Siesta Key, causing widespread damage and dangerous conditions across Florida.

The letter to President Biden emphasized the urgent need for federal resources to assist in recovery efforts. "We write in support of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ request for an Expedited Major Disaster Declaration for the state of Florida as a result of Hurricane Milton," the delegation stated.

Florida has been hit by three hurricanes in recent months, including two major ones. Hurricane Milton impacted areas already affected by previous storms, notably Hurricane Helene. The storm led to significant destruction, including at least 16 deaths and numerous tornadoes that destroyed around 150 homes.

The letter continued: "Given the severity of the storm, as evidenced by the at least 16 reported deaths and still untold damages wrought by Hurricane Milton on peoples’ homes, businesses and livelihoods, we urge your immediate consideration of a Major Disaster Declaration."

The delegation underscored the importance of federal assistance in helping communities recover from this disaster. They concluded their appeal with gratitude: "We thank you for your consideration of Governor DeSantis’ request and look forward to your expeditious response to this critically important issue."
