Florida Congressman Daniel Webster expressed satisfaction following the resolution of a labor dispute that had threatened operations at East and Gulf Coast ports. The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) reached a tentative agreement, suspending the strike until the end of the year.
Webster stated, "I am pleased that the ILA and USMX have reached an agreement to keep East and Gulf ports opened through the end of this year. I hope this short-term agreement will lead to a long contract that is fair to U.S. workers and consumers."
The issue gained attention in September when Webster, along with more than 60 colleagues, urged the Biden-Harris Administration to take action to prevent a work stoppage at these crucial ports. Despite their efforts, a stoppage occurred, prompting further calls from Webster and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves for the White House to intervene.
