Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, voted today to pass three pieces of legislation aimed at bolstering the economic and national security of the United States against the increasing influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“The Chinese Communist Party is a direct threat to our national and economic security,” said Rep. Webster. “For decades, China has taken advantage of the United States by offshoring our jobs, stealing our intellectual property, and threatening freedom and international trade worldwide. These bills put America first by securing our supply chains, protecting American innovation, and defending our nation’s values against the malign influence of the CCP.”
The three bills passed include:
H.R. 1398, the Protecting America’s Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act: This bill reestablishes a Trump-era initiative within the National Security Division of the Department of Justice to address espionage by the CCP on U.S. intellectual property and academic institutions.
H.R. 9456, the Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act: This legislation strengthens protection of U.S. agricultural land and biotechnology from foreign investments by adversarial nations like China, ensuring that food security remains under American control.
H.R. 1425, the No WHO Pandemic Preparedness Treaty Without Senate Approval Act: This act prevents international pandemic agreements negotiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) from being implemented without Senate review, safeguarding U.S. sovereignty against CCP influence in global health policies.
