Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, issued a statement following his vote to pass H.R. 1516, the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act. The legislation aims to restrict funding to American universities with ties to Confucius Institutes.
“The Chinese Communist Party poses a serious threat to America’s national security,” said Rep. Webster. “Confucius Institutes have long served as a tool for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to infiltrate our education system and spread propaganda. Under President Trump, we exposed these institutes for what they really are. H.R. 1516 takes the next step to protect the integrity of our nation’s educational institutions by preventing these CCP-funded programs from leveraging U.S. resources. The message is clear, U.S. taxpayer dollars will not fund foreign influence on our nation’s educational institutions.”
