Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, has expressed his approval following the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, which overturns its previous decision in Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council.

“Today’s landmark decision from the Supreme Court puts an end to 40 years of unelected bureaucrats setting federal policy,” said Rep. Webster. “By overturning Chevron deference, the Supreme Court reins in the administrative state and restores Congress’ Article I authority outlined in the Constitution. I have voted to hold unelected bureaucrats accountable and will continue working with my House Republican colleagues to ensure Congress takes back its Constitutional authority.”

In July 2023, Congressman Webster and over 30 members of Congress petitioned the court to abandon the Chevron deference doctrine. Additionally, Rep. Webster has taken several actions aimed at restoring Congressional authority and enhancing agency oversight:

He co-introduced and voted to pass H.R. 277, the REINS Act, on June 14, 2023. This act requires Congress to approve any federal rule or regulation that the Office of Management and Budget determines to have an economic impact of $100 million or more.

Furthermore, he voted to pass H.R. 288, the Separation of Powers Act (SOPRA), on June 15, 2023. This act aims to restore independent judicial review by allowing courts to make decisions about agency rulemaking based on the Constitution and Federal law.
