Washington, D.C. — Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, released a statement regarding his vote to pass H.R. 192, legislation that would prohibit noncitizens from voting in local District of Columbia elections. The bill would also repeal D.C.’s Local Residents Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022, which allows noncitizens to vote in local elections, ballot initiatives, and referendums.

“It’s simple, only American citizens should have a voice in American elections,” said Rep. Webster. “An honest and secure election is a hallmark of our republic, with the right to vote serving as a privilege and responsibility for American citizens. D.C.’s City Council diluted the votes of American citizens by allowing noncitizens, including illegal immigrants and foreign agents, the ability to vote in local elections. This legislation protects the integrity of D.C.’s local elections and ensures only American citizens have a voice in the governance of the city.”
