Washington, D.C. — Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, has voiced his support for a series of legislative measures aimed at holding Iran and its associated terrorist groups accountable for their aggressive actions on the international stage, particularly concerning their unjust attacks on Israel.
Rep. Webster emphasized the significance of these legislative actions by stating, "As the world’s largest state-sponsor of terrorism, Iran is a proven opponent of U.S. interests, international security, and universal values of liberty." He further added, "The legislation passed this week holds the Iranian regime and terrorist proxies accountable and protects American interests."
Among the key bills supported by Rep. Webster this week are the Iran Counterterrorism Act, which restricts President Biden’s authority to waive sanctions on Iran without the cessation of support for terrorism. Additionally, legislation such as the No U.S. Financing for Iran Act and the Iran Sanctions Accountability Act aim to limit the Iranian regime's ability to finance terrorism and ensure that humanitarian exceptions to sanctions do not inadvertently support terrorism or the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Furthermore, the bills also include measures such as the Holding Iranian Leaders Accountable Act, which mandates the Department of the Treasury to report on the finances of Iranian government officials and requires financial institutions to sever ties with these individuals.
These legislative actions have now been passed by the House of Representatives and are set to be considered by the U.S. Senate. Rep. Webster's proactive stance on these issues underscores the importance of holding Iran accountable for its destabilizing actions in the region.
