Washington, D.C. — Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, together with Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-NY) and 15 of his Republican colleagues, have called on National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) President Charlie Baker to revise NCAA policies and prohibit biological men from competing in women’s sports.
In a letter addressed to President Baker, Congressman Webster highlighted the recent decision by the NAIA Council of Presidents to bar biological males, who have undergone hormone therapy, from participating in women's sports. Webster stated, "As you know, last week the NAIA Council of Presidents unanimously approved a new policy regarding transgender athletes. This policy prohibits the participation of biological males, who have undergone hormone therapy, in women’s sports."
The letter further emphasized the urgency for the NCAA to reassess its current policy, with Webster stating, "As such, we urge the NCAA to reconsider its current policy that allows biological males to deprive women of a fair opportunity to compete and achieve athletic success."
Apart from this letter, Congressman Webster has actively supported the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, H.R. 734, by voting for its passage. This legislation, co-sponsored by Webster, aims to safeguard the integrity of women's sports.
The letter to President Baker was also endorsed by a group of Republican lawmakers including Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Nick Langworthy (R-NY), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), and several others, demonstrating a collective effort to advocate for the protection of women's sports.
