Washington, D.C. — The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee today approved H.R. 7659, the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2024, a bill that aims to support the Coast Guard in its crucial missions. According to Subcommittee Chairman Webster, the legislation provides the necessary investments and authorities to maintain the Coast Guard's critical operations, ensuring border security and addressing recruiting challenges.
In a statement, Subcommittee Chairman Webster highlighted the significance of the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2024, stating, "The measure will also help turn the tide on the Service’s recruiting challenges and provides for additional surface and air assets, as well as resources to begin replacing the Service’s crumbling shoreside infrastructure."
Moreover, the legislation incorporates the Coast Guard Protection and Accountability Act of 2024, which focuses on strengthening protections for Coast Guard members against sexual assault and harassment and enhancing transparency within the Service. Subcommittee Chairman Webster expressed his appreciation for the bipartisan effort behind this legislation, acknowledging the contributions of Chairman Graves, Ranking Member Larsen, and Subcommittee Ranking Member Carbajal.
