Florida Congressman Daniel Webster and his colleagues from the House Republican Science, Space, and Technology Committee are taking action to address concerns about China's increasing influence in the international market. They have written to key government officials, including the United States Trade Representative, the Director of National Intelligence, and the Secretaries of State and Defense, seeking answers and additional information on the recommendations outlined in a report regarding China's role in international standards for emerging technologies.

The report, titled "A New 'Great Game'?: China's Role in International Standards for Emerging Technologies," was conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as directed by the FY2021 National Defense Authorization Act. Its purpose was to examine the effects of the policies implemented by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the international market and make recommendations to ensure that the United States remains the leader in setting global standards.

In their letter, Webster and his colleagues express concerns about China's attempts to undermine international bodies responsible for developing technical standards. They emphasize the need for American leadership, competitiveness, innovation, transparency, and voluntary and merit-based standards. The members call on the government officials to provide comments on the recommendations outlined in the report.

The letters were co-signed by Representatives Stephanie Bice, Scott Franklin, Brandon Williams, Tom Kean, Rick Crawford, Mike Garcia, Claudia Tenney, Rich McCormick, Dale Strong, and Jim Baird. The co-signers represent a bipartisan group of House Republicans who share the concerns about China's growing influence.

The goal of Webster and his colleagues is to ensure that the United States remains at the forefront of science and technology, despite China's significant investments in these areas. By seeking answers and additional information from key government officials, they hope to understand what actions are being taken to implement the recommendations of the NIST report.

As the United States continues to face challenges from China's rise in science and technology, it is crucial for policymakers to address the issue of China's influence in international standards. Webster and his colleagues' efforts to seek transparency and action from government officials demonstrate their commitment to protecting American interests and maintaining the country's leadership in the global market.

In a world where technological advancements play a vital role in economic and national security, addressing China's international influence becomes a top priority for the United States. Webster and his colleagues' actions highlight the importance of proactive measures to safeguard American interests and ensure that the country remains at the forefront of innovation and competitiveness.
