Washington, DC – Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, has expressed his support for an amended bill aimed at reducing spending and addressing the border crisis. Webster voted in favor of the 30-day spending bill, known as H.R. 5525 - Spending Reduction and Border Security Enhancement Act, which would have cut $11 billion in spending for October alone and compelled the Biden Administration to secure the border.

Speaking about his vote, Congressman Webster stated, "The DOJ’s special counsel investigations and reckless spending will continue during a shutdown, and the Biden Border Crisis will only get worse. I cannot support an extension that would perpetuate excessive spending, contributing to runaway inflation, and failing to address the border crisis."

The passage of this bill is seen as a responsible step towards reducing spending, securing the border, and ensuring that military personnel and border patrol agents receive their pay. Congressman Webster emphasized that the House is actively working on the remaining eight required appropriations bills.

Reflecting on the situation, Webster remarked, "It didn’t have to be this way - the process should have begun at the start of the year, so a vote on a budget could happen well before the fiscal deadline. I have pushed for this and adopted such a schedule when I led the Republican takeover of the Florida House of Representatives – which many have followed since - and it’s contributed to responsible spending decisions and a better budget outlook for all Floridians."
