Washington, D.C. — Florida Congressman Daniel Webster, R-Clermont, released the following statement on his vote to pass H.R. 1640, the Save Our Gas Stoves Act and H.R. 1615 Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act.
“This movement to effectively ban gas stoves is absurd,” said Rep. Webster. “Instead of working on policies that benefit the American people, the Biden Administration has sided with climate extremists. Today, by supporting H.R. 1640, I voted to push back on heavy-handed regulatory overreach and protect consumer choice.”
Background:
In February, the Department of Energy (DOE) issued a proposed rule that, if finalized, would set maximum annual energy consumption standards for electric and gas cooking tops manufactured and sold into commerce. Under this proposed rule nearly 96% of gas cooking tops would be noncompliant. H.R. 1615 and 1640 together prohibit DOE from moving forward with their proposed rule and prevents the department from issuing energy conservation standards for kitchen ranges and ovens if they result in the unavailability of a product based on the type of fuel used.
