Lake County Schools issued the following announcement on Jun. 08.
In response to questions raised about why the school district isn’t offering the summer meal kits again this summer, we wanted parents to know that the meal kits were part of a federal initiative that expires on June 30. In addition, we were recently notified that the meal kits would not be available in June because of nationwide food shortages.
In response, the district opened 31 summer feeding sites across the county where students can get free breakfast and lunch, Monday to Friday. This is an increase from 24 sites last summer, making breakfast and lunch more easily accessible to students throughout the summer.
