Ocala Metro Chamber And Economic Partnership issued the following announcement on Dec. 21.

Young Entrepreneur Wins 1st Place in CEP’s 8th Annual “Shark Tank” Style Contest!

Emilio Armas, a 12th grader at Vanguard High School in Ocala, FL, has won 1st Place in the CEP’s 8th Annual Marion County Youth Business Plan Competition!

Armas’ “Shark Tank style” pitch was for a new startup called Mylomusic Designs. This company invents and manufacturers audio mixing hardware used in the music and entertainment industries. Armas’ signature product, Octane, is a unit which employs unique computer algorithms to mix audio inputs in new ways. Emilio began soldering circuit boards and building prototypes of synthesizers when he was 8 years old. For his winning entry, Armas won $8,000 in cash among other prizes.

A second place prize of $4,000 was awarded to Busy Bees, a team comprised of 11th graders Mackenzie Ragle, Violet Marchese and Adyla Kerley. This group, also from Vanguard High School, proposed their idea for a mobile app which integrates event planning and location sharing. If someone using the app has an emergency, other people involved in planning a particular event are alerted to that person’s location in addition to the authorities if needed.

A third place prize of $3,000 was awarded to Scan Surgeon from West Port High School. 11th and 12th graders Victoria Goodrich, Jezebiel Gonzalez, Avneesh Saravanapavan and Vivek Sandrapaty shared their concept for a subscription-based app which would train medical school students by leveraging the latest in virtual reality.

The competition was sponsored this year by eResources LLC, Raneys.com, and Campus USA Credit Union. Judges included Joel Raney, Mary Lawrence, Carrie Drake, Cherrietta Prince, Navroz Saju, and Rondo Fernandez. Twenty-seven team applications from sixty-one students at six high schools were received in the first round. Open to 9-12th grade public, private, and home-school students who reside in Marion County, the purpose of the contest is to encourage students think entrepreneurially and understand what is involved in starting a business.
