Lake County Schools issued the following announcement on Aug. 03.
Congratulations to Alexis DeLand and Mercedes Perry, both of Leesburg High School, on their recent wins. Lexi and Sadie traveled to the University of South Carolina-Aiken with a few of their teammates to compete at the Drum Majorettes of America National Championships. They competed in a trio and their trio won first place, making them national champions. They then began their individual competitions.
Alexis won the title of DMA National Junior Halftime. She also won first place in her advanced solo, making her the DMA National Solo Champion for her age group. She finished third in the nation for the title of Teen Majorette Queen. Upon returning home, she received word she has become an Elite competitor, which is the highest possible level she can compete at in our organization. This is a huge honor. She will be also be one of two feature twirlers at LHS.
Mercedes also had a great nationals. She won the title of DMA National Pom Girl, and finished 3rd overall for the title of DMA’s Debutante Princess. She will be the other feature twirler at LHS.
Come out to an LHS game to see this dynamic duo twirling for the Swarm of Sound, and be prepared to be amazed.
