Florida Congressman Daniel Webster has collaborated with Representative Greg Steube to reintroduce the U.S. Citrus Protection Act. This legislation aims to ban the importation of commercially produced fresh citrus fruit from China.

“Florida’s citrus growers have fed Americans for generations and remain a cornerstone of our state’s agricultural economy,” stated Rep. Webster. He emphasized that Chinese imports pose a risk to American farmers and food security, adding, “The U.S. Citrus Protection Act puts American agriculture first and ensures that we are not dependent on foreign adversaries for our food supply.”

Rep. Greg Steube highlighted the significance of Florida’s citrus industry in U.S. agriculture, noting its role in providing fresh produce and byproducts domestically and internationally. He criticized the influx of “high-risk, pest-laden citrus imports” from foreign sources as a threat to American farmers’ livelihoods. “Grocery stores in America should be stocked with oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, and other fruits harvested right here in the United States,” he said. Steube’s bill aims to prioritize U.S. growers by prohibiting citrus imports from China.
