A precautionary boil water notice is in effect for residents living at 2653-2671 Rotherham Road, the City of Tavares announced on April 14.

The notice is important because it helps protect public health by reducing the risk of illness from potentially unsafe tap water. Residents are advised to take steps to ensure their drinking and cooking water is safe until further testing can be completed.

According to the city, all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes should be boiled for at least one minute at a rolling boil. Bottled water may also be used as an alternative during this period. The city said this measure will remain in place until bacteriological surveys confirm that the tap water is safe to drink.

Service will be restored as soon as possible once safety has been confirmed. Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the City of Tavares Water Department at (352) 742-6222.

The city has not provided an exact timeline for when the advisory will be lifted but emphasized that updates will follow after necessary tests have been completed.
