Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved H.R. 276, a bill cosponsored by Congressman Daniel Webster from Clermont. The legislation aims to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

Congressman Webster stated, “From supporting vast fisheries and a vibrant tourism industry to serving as a key maritime port and important military asset, the Gulf of America serves a critical role for Florida, the Gulf Coast, and our country.” He added that President Trump has acknowledged the significance of this body of water and that today’s vote by House Republicans was to formalize his executive order by officially renaming it.
