Florida Congressman Daniel Webster cast his vote in favor of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s budget reconciliation proposal. This proposal aims to align with the priorities set by President Trump, focusing on securing borders, enhancing national security, modernizing air traffic control, and improving Coast Guard readiness. Additionally, it seeks to cut down wasteful spending to reduce the nation’s deficit by over $10 billion.
Rep. Webster stated, “My number one priority for this bill was to repeal Biden-era Green-New Deal style spending and ensure our U.S. Coast Guard receives the resources they need to do their vital work of protecting our maritime border, conducting search and rescue and stopping illegal immigrants and drug traffickers.” Webster expressed his satisfaction, citing that the bill supports President Trump’s Arctic and Antarctic priorities. He viewed the passage of this proposal as essential in advancing President Trump’s agenda.
The bill includes an allocation of over $21 billion for modernizing the Coast Guard’s fleet of cutters, aimed at boosting Arctic and coastal operations. Additionally, it finances aircraft, shoreside infrastructure, and various assets to empower the Coast Guard in border protection, drug interdiction, and safeguarding maritime borders and seaports.
Webster commented further, “By rejecting the Washington presumption that nothing can be cut from the budget in order to fund priorities without increasing the deficit, we are fulfilling our promise to the American people to put America First.”
The budget reconciliation proposal also emphasizes significant investments in modernizing air traffic control, radar systems, and enhancing airport safety. It includes measures to end free use of infrastructure for electric vehicle owners by making them contribute to the Highway Trust Fund. The proposal additionally seeks to repeal over $4 billion in unspent funds designated for environmental projects and eradicate programs originating from the Inflation Reduction Act.
