Florida Congressman Daniel Webster has expressed his condolences following the death of John Thrasher, former Florida House Speaker and President Emeritus of Florida State University. In a statement released from Clermont, Webster reflected on Thrasher’s extensive contributions to the state.
“Few have given more to the state of Florida than John Thrasher,” Webster stated. “He was a statesman, a soldier, and a friend. Throughout his career, John served Florida with dedication.”
Thrasher’s career included roles such as serving on the Clay County School Board, holding the position of Speaker of the Florida House, and later becoming President of Florida State University. His leadership is noted for leaving a significant impact on Florida.
Webster also recounted a pivotal moment in political history when he and his Republican colleagues gained control of the Florida House for the first time in over a century. “John was the first to extend his congratulations,” Webster recalled. “Together, we helped usher in a new era of commonsense conservative leadership.”
In closing his remarks, Webster offered thoughts and prayers to Thrasher’s family: “Sandy and I are keeping Jean and the entire Thrasher family in our prayers. May they find comfort in the legacy of service and integrity that John leaves behind.”
